Thank you to the hosts, sponsers and all participants of this jam. This was my first year participating and I had a blast. I am so excited to see everyone's art. A special thank you to my friends in our Retro Releases Discord server. Y'all are so awesome, thank you for playing along with me. Art is always more fun with friends.

It is almost midnight and I started working on this around 9 am this morning. I apologize in advance for the number of typos that will probably be on this page. I've got plans tomorrow, but Monday I will add more to this page and correct any errors.

As it is right now I have exactly 192 tiles used. I know I have several single use tiles I could change to squeeze a bit more out of the tilecount, but I just ran out of time. If I had time tomorrow I would run it through a tool my husband/dev partner made that counts the number of times a tile is used. We used limited tilesets in our games so I am always on the lookout for single use tiles. It has been an incredible asset for our games.

If you would like to use that tool here's the link. It's just an in-house tool. Neither one of us thought it would be handy to anyone else, so there aren't any instructions. In order to use it, you'll need to have your tiles in a PNG file and your work in a .json file. If you could use a tool like this, let me know and we'll improve the page. We are all about supporting other devs and artists, especially those with interests in retro systems.

  • I stream a lot of my pixel art on our business TY channel. Check it out if you are interested in how pixel art works in new games for retro systems, looking for challenges to practice your pixel art skills, or if you just want to chat about pixel art and games. You can see most of the work I did on our YT channel and I put a summary of my workflow below.
  • Friday Night:
    • Brainstormed 5 ideas for how to interpret the theme 'color' along with the palettes.
  • Saturday Morning:
    • Selected my idea and began drew for about 3 hours and 45 minutes.
    • Took a lunch break. Tried not to look at my piece or think about it, however I did watch several Brandon James Greer videos.
  • Saturday Afternoon:
    • Drew for another 3 hours and 30 minutes.
    • Worked on pushing my tileset to the max.
    • Went a bit overboard and had to dial things back.
    • Took a break for dinner. Ate dinner staring at my work.
  • Saturday Evening:
    • Drew for another 2 hours 45 minutes.
    • Did a lot of editing one tile, running it through the tile counter, over and over again.
    • Created my project page.
    • Submitted my work.

Estimated time spent on project: 13 hours
Approximate time spent brainstorming: 2 hours
Approximate time spent drawing: 10 hours
Approximate time spent on project page: 1 hour

Please let me know if you have any questions, suggestions, or feedback. I am always looking for ways to improve my own art and help others.
